Dawn chorus walk – Sat 28 April:
Well the annual Dawn chorus walk at Penclacwydd – the National Wetland Centre for Wales – went well, with a keen group of people meeting ready to go out at 6am.
The weather was kind, and the next two and a half hours were spent helping people pick out and identify the calls and song of the birds bringing in the new day.
With some of the summer migrants already arrived and singing, such as Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler and others, there was lots of opportunity to hear and see a range of these birds, and pick out things that quite often can be missed and overlooked.
I have been helping with the annual walk for a number of years now, and this year I was accompanied by Dr.Brian Briggs, the Head Reserve Manager. A really good start to the day, polished off with a breakfast for the full group back at the Kingfisher Kitchen in the Centre.
